Accounting Assistant (Charleston and Summerville)

This is currently a part-to-full-time position. Please read the entire job posting to ensure that your application will not be ignored.

Summary - very busy accountant, business consultant and tax preparer looking for assistant who can help with day-to-day client maintenance and eventually grow into a role where they can provide the main line of services on an autonomous basis.

A detailed cover letter is REQUIRED or your resume will be ignored. Tell us about yourself, your goals, and why you are the best fit for the position. Cite all relevant software proficiencies and courses completed, also be prepared to answer some verbal questions to demonstrate your skills.

QuickBooks experience is REQUIRED; please specify within the cover letter the exact extent of yours (what tasks you have done; extent of supervision within this role, and the like). Also, please include within your references someone who we can call that can vouch for your experience.

Proficiency with Excel is also REQUIRED. Sending us examples of your work with spreadsheets will greatly increase your chances of obtaining an interview. Kindly do not send classroom assignments completed as a result of a guided process. Also, please do not send any proprietary information.

Ideal candidate is currently enrolled within an accredited accounting B.S. program at a Charleston Area university, and has performed well in accounting courses (please send copy or screenshot of transcript along with a professor as reference).

Applicants should have at least a rudimentary understanding of accounting rules and concepts, along with strong computer, English and typing skills. You may be asked to prove your knowledge by defining credits, debits, and identifying which increases or decreases a specific type of account.

A laptop that can install / operate Windows-based applications is REQUIRED. We will provide all business software, however we will expect that you already have access to Windows and a Microsoft Office suite (student edition is fine).

Ideal personal traits: detail-oriented, organized, efficient, focused, minimalist, cordial, punctual, communicative, quick learner.

Compensation will be determined based on skill level and ability to get the work done without needing constant attention. In addition, you will receive a high level of training and exposure to all levels of accounting and bookkeeping.

This is NOT a work-at-home position. We will work around your classes and studies, but you will need to be able to commit to a fixed weekly routine and have time available during business hours (projected 12-24 hours a week to start).

You will be working onsite with multiple clients on any given day, so please be able to get around on your own and present yourself in a professional manner.

Transcriptionist-non medical (charleston)

Work at home transcriptionist needed, on a will call basis. Non-Medical. Great opportunity for someone who wants to supplement their regular income or is a stay at home professional and has transcription experience transcribing focus groups/interviews/meetings, etc. Must have digital transcription ability, i.e. digital transcription software, USB foot pedal, high speed internet service. Need someone I can call on when I get overloaded which can be very often or not for weeks, so this is not steady work. Have owned a home based transcription service for over 20 years and work with universities, government institutions, and independent researchers. Can email you sample files of the type of transcription expected. After you review the files, if you're interested, will FTP you a digital file that I would ask you transcribe 3-4 pages on your own time, no compensation, email transcribed pages back with time taken to transcribe, and we can go from there.
