Do you love the outdoors? Do you enjoy discovering Maine history? Do you get a thrill from treasure hunting? Earn some extra money this summer by rediscovering Maine's historic past!

Currently hiring for a summer intern/assistant. Seeking dedicated individual for this position, with potential room to grow into a partner. We use maps, records, and research to discover, investigate, and excavate long forgotten historic sites all around Maine. As we lose more history to Maine's tough climate, we seek to rescue and preserve the history of artifacts found through recovery, documentation, and support through local historical societies. We also help preserve the memory and existence of whole sites using photography and written documentation that will forever be held in existence in Maine history. This position is perfect for college students and others with the summer off, and any of those who have a love of history!

Work & Schedule:
•Ideally this position will run from now until November, with possible limited winter work. The majority of work will be conducted through the summer months, so summer availability is a must.
•Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with an occasional variable weekday. This is a weekend job, requiring your committed availability on Saturday and Sunday. You are also free to work at home and on your own other times to develop new leads or finish any other work.
•Average is 10 hour days in the field, 1-2 days per week. The majority of the work is outdoors, sometimes in all weather, including rain. Field work will range all over the state. Many of the field locations are remote, or a long distance from home, and frequent overnight trips throughout summer weekends are required, spent back country camping near the site. Non-field work will include cleaning artifacts, research, cataloging, writing summaries, and other computer work. Hours with non-field work are more flexible, and much of which may be done at home.

Requirements:
A laid back attitude, and a good sense of humor and ability to have fun is a must!
A strong ability to work independently in the outdoors.
Physical ability to hike distances, and backpack gear and artifacts in and out of sites.
Available weekends (including overnight stays) throughout the summer, with additional flexible time available.
A true love of history, learning, and finding forgotten things.
Ability to operate hand-held technology and Apple OS.
Ability to read maps and understand GPS.
Valid license and clean driving record.
Current tetanus vaccine.
Must be at least 18 years old.

Compensation:
This is a paid position. Compensation is based on experience and work produced, and is not an hourly position. Commission based on leads and artifacts dug. Overnight per diem compensation. Out of area transportation and meals included. Applicants are expected to be within commuting distance of the Augusta area.
